International relocation is a key challenge for both multinationals and domestic UK employers. Kingsley Napley provides top quality joined up legal advice, helping people move between countries for work.
Our global mobility services were not developed in response to Brexit. Kingsley Napley’s immigration practice has been rated ‘top tier’ for immigration amongst UK law firms for over 15 years. Our practical experience is long and our relationships with public authorities, and specialists across the globe are second to none
We advise both multinational and domestic employers, as well as senior executives, on the legal aspects of global mobility. Advice covers inbound and outbound assignments, and those that do not involve the UK at all.
We work closely with in house and external global mobility advisers in a wide variety of specialisms, including, for example, HR, reward, share plans, expatriate tax and social security, corporation tax, VAT, pensions, regulatory and other specialist areas. We are happy to assist as required by clients, from ‘cross-border beginners’ requiring full project management to specialists needing quick legal input to supplement their own advice.
Typically, we are initially asked to prepare framework employment documents for use by in house HR teams within multinationals. These might include short and long term assignment letters, business visitor and international commuter documents, inter-company agreements or policy documents.
We may subsequently assist in adapting those documents for use in specific locations, introduce appropriate specialists in home and host countries as required and follow up by giving legal insight on day-to-day cross-border management issues. This might include advice on sickness, family policies, change to terms and conditions, localisation, or re-assignment. We are frequently asked to negotiate international severance terms.
